WHANGAREI PRECISION AEROBATICS
21 ~ 22 January 2012
The first of the Precision Aerobatics competitions for 2012 was held in
Whangarei over two days. Saturday was a beautiful day with very warm, calm
conditions resulting in some really nice flying.
Sportsman had a good entry supported by talented local pilots competing. Ross
Craighead flew a demonstration 'Sportsman' schedule for the newcomers to see
the manoeuvres. They then went out and provided a good event, very keenly
competed for. Advanced and F3A were flying the new 2012 schedules and the judges had a
variety of flying to score in both classes.
On Sunday morning there was low cloud, mist and rain until mid-day when the
skies cleared and some very competitive flying was seen in Sportsman and
Advanced.
John Rodgers had arrived overnight so provided very close competition for Steve
Greig and Ian Hill who both had 1000’s from the previous day.
There were no obvious placings in either class until the final scores were
entered.
Ross Craighead flew some nice manoeuvres in F3A showing the attributes of his
new Nuance aeroplane.
It was great to see the local WMAC members competing in their competition and
we look forward to seeing them at more comps in the future.
It was also fantastic to see Ian Hill, who had travelled all the way from
Wellington. Thank you Ian.
A big ‘Thank You’ to Grant Plaisted for organising the comp and his obvious
influence on the local Sportsman entrants and to Rod & John for all the cooking
and producing delicious food. Thanks WMAC.
Thanks also to all the Judges and pencillers. Your efforts are most appreciated.
