Springhill IMAC

I didn’t get there till late in the afternoon, early Saturday morning sport was a slight delay, but nothing compared to the dealing with the one million Aucklander’s who all decided it was time to park their cars on state highway 1 !!

By all accounts a good days flying, and great to be back at Springhill MAC. Tarmac runway in pristine condition ! Must be awesome having this as your club venue.

A couple of new keen guys in Basic with 50cc models which is great to see. Aaron Fowlds with an Edge in “General Lee” Dukes of Hazard colours and Johan Meyer with a great looking Aeroworks Yak 55. Both from North Shore club. Both keen as mustard for the next comp.

In Sportsman, Craig Watkins back, and at his first comp is a few years, managed to win Sportsman ahead of Jon Berger and Rick Splinter, who had a pretty close contest for 2nd and 3rd. Sportsman stalwart John Butler rounding out the field, and enjoying himself as he usually does.

Jarrod Briggs was the only Intermediate flyer, and he proceeded to wake up the neighbours with the Yak 54. Were are all the Intermediate guys ? Time to come out of hiding, Grommet will be moving up to Advanced after some practice on his Grandad’s PBG 260 this winter.

Dave Wilkins and John Rodgers flew Advanced. On his first flight, Dave suffered some problems with his aileron horns, and that was his dash for the day. Ted once again was the Springhill Champion in that class flying his Aeroworks Ultimate Bipe, with DLE 222 doing the business up front !

Unlimited … it was a case of A High, B Hello, C good evening ! And that was all she wrote … I rolled out my new PBG Extra 300, tried to look all “wind swept and interesting” but only to have my trusty old DA200 go kaput on the first flight. Finally did the crank in. Major debate about whether or not I put oil in the fuel, yep, I might be getting old, but I definitely did. As a test, see what happens when you put raw petrol on a sheet of white paper, vs petrol with 40:1 redline in it. The raw petrol afcter an hour dries white. The redline fuel leaves a grey tinge. Anyway … this was something we were expecting to happen soon, as its an old crank version, one that has since been updated at DA. So v3 crank on its way, in the meantime … what’s this … how convenient, Huggy Bear has left his trailer, model and MOTOR at my house. Can you hear the socket set going click click click ? it did the next day … 😉

Looks like we might be able to do a few more comps like this at Springhill. Watch this space.

Cheers,

Bogan

And now for some pics, sorry I didn’t snap too many, more next time I promise !
